AUGUST 8TH 2017
Off to Work have a highly skilled workforce, but sometimes, some of their talents are quite different to hospitality! One such star is our team member Kathleen Greene, a talented singer and performer.
After beating the competition in a public vote, Kathleen has been chosen to sing ‘Abide with Me’ alongside the London City Voices choir ahead of this year’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium between Hull FC and Wigan Warriors.
Kathleen obtained her BMus in Music Performance from the London College of Music in 2015 where she studied under soprano Sandra Ford. She also works hard to represent Off to Work at esteemed client venues. She's so great, she even works in the office as a coach, taking care of staff bookings and phone calls! We caught up with Kathleen to see how she’s feeling ahead of the big day.
Tells us a bit about yourself and your journey as an Off to Work Team Member:
I started with Off to Work right after I graduated with BSMus from London College of Music. I didn’t have a job whilst I was studying, because I threw all my energy and focus into music! I had a few singer friends who were already working with Off to Work and recommended it to me because of the flexible hours, good pay and reliability of the staff. I applied, thinking I could fit work around my passion for music and it definitely worked out, because here I am!
Do you have a standout moment or an Off to Work shift that you particularly enjoyed?
I have lots of standout moments but one of my favourites was the Farnborough Air Show! I spent the whole day driving VIP’s around in a golf buggy and it was so much fun – like being on holiday. I love to work for lots of different clients like Table Talk and Bubble Food and I really enjoy the variety this brings. I also like when clients supply us with food on shift – as you can imagine, I’ve tried some great dishes!
How did you find out about the Ladbrokes Cup Challenge?
I’m signed up to an audition website who posted the opportunity and I saw it there. I went for the audition and found it out was a public vote thing. The more I talk about it and realise how close it is, the more nervous I get. I need to keep practicing and perfecting my words. I’m so excited to have won, though! I’m going to be singing Abide by Me with the London City Voices Choir and the national anthem which will be amazing.
Would you recommend Off to Work to others in the creative industry?
Yes! I always meet other singers on shift and promote to my friends who are singers too. Off to Work is great because they hire the personality and train the skills. Singers tend to be incredibly passionate about their music and don’t put time into learning other skills, so they can sometimes struggle to find a job. With Off to Work’s great, in depth training days, anyone can pick up the skills if they have the right attitude!
Do you have any advice for others wanting to join the Off to Work team?
Stay happy, don’t get to stressed about work and have fun!
Well done Kathleen! We wish you the very best of luck on the 26th and can't wait to watch your performance.
