COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Glasgow

Having successfully staffed the London Olympics in 2012 and Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014, were delighted to be chosen to support another major international sporting event with our clients at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014.

Both clients were providing catering to a number of different sites across the city, with our team predominantly working at the SECC (home of such events as judo, boxing and other physical sports); and the Athlete’s Village, the custom-built home for all competitors, their families and close team throughout the event.

Every single member of staff had to go through stringent security checks for the event, with a long requirement for identification documents, background checks and work histories. We worked closely with our clients to ensure that information was collated from our team as efficiently as possible before uploading to the security system, and continuing the process throughout the games to ensure that unexpected demands could be met.

We were tasked with providing over 140 staff on the busiest days, including team leaders, waiters, baristas, bar tenders, kitchen porters and chefs. Due to the constantly changing, 24-hour nature of the event, we provided a round-the-clock service to ensure that our clients could communicate changes at any time and have them immediately taken care of.

Our staff were faced with a complex range of requirements, especially in the Athlete’s Village where the service ran 24 hours a day throughout the games. This necessitated a number of staggered starts, some as early as 4am. Through close communication with our team and client contacts, we matched the skills of our team to the best possible job role.

An incredible event for everyone

All the long hours and hard work paid off for our team, who were able to experience one of the world’s largest sports tournaments from within,  preview the opening ceremony and meet with some of the VIP visitors  including one of our team leaders, Peter Miller, who met both Sir Chris Hoy & HRH Prince William.
