Off to Work - Birmingham Operations
Off to Work’s office team is drawn together to bring an expert understanding of the needs of the events industry. The management structure has been brought together not from a recruitment background but all from an event and catering background to ensure that we understand your needs and provide you with the product and service you want.
I graduated in 2001 from the Birmingham College of Food with a Hospitality Management degree and I have since worked in 4 star hotels in both Dublin and Birmingham. In 2003 I joined the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham as a Staffing Officer to gain a ‘back of house’ perspective on event operations and in 2004 was promoted to Recruitment & Deployment Manager for the NEC Group’s city centre venues comprising of The ICC, The NIA, Symphony Hall and Wine Republic.
In August 2007 I joined Off to Work as General Manager for the Birmingham Office with my aim being to ensure that the growing database of clients within the Midlands region receives the best possible hospitality professionals. 2009 saw OTW expand even further with me overseeing the development of more Midlands contacts in Manchester and the North-West. I enjoy working out on events as an events manager or hostess whenever possible, my favourite being a recent ‘Style in the City’ event.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for support or advice for your staffing or events management requirements in the West Midlands.
Darren has a wealth of experience predominantly as an Account Manager and Field Sales Manager with both House of Fraser and Selfridges. He joined Off To Work in the Midlands in January 2010 after nearly 2 years working as a Recruitment Consultant where he developed his training, sales and client relationship skills.
He also gained further experience in Event Management working alongside high profile caterers where he had the opportunity to work on prestigious events for the likes of Ask Jeeves, Jaguar, Louis Vuitton and Peroni. His favourite event so far with Off to Work has been at the Brit Awards where he had the opportunity to work alongside both the London and Birmingham teams.
Darren is very excited to be assisting Katie in building up both our Birmingham and Manchester staff and client bases and if you have any queries regarding quotes or events in the Midlands please do not hesitate to contact him.
I have been in the Events and Marketing industry for nearly 10 years complemented with a degree in Marketing with Events Management. My experience in events comes from various angles – as a musician whilst studying at Music College, as a promotions girl and hostess for various consumer brands and venues, as supervisor in catering and hospitality across The NEC Group venues as well as working for an events company managing Christmas booking packages and organising front of house service.
I have been with Off To Work Birmingham since September 2010 taking care of the Recruitment & Training of the new Off To Work stars, managing niche client accounts and regularly working out in the field managing events for our clients.
I am also in charge of staff communications so if there is anything that you would like us to feedback to the team please do get in touch!
Conrad has worked in catering and hospitality since the age of 14 when he began working as a kitchen porter and runner at a large wedding venue. He then progressed to waiter, wine waiter and bar man at various venues in and around Birmingham, before embarking on a degree in Hospitality and Food Management at University College Birmingham (then known as Birmingham College of Food).
While studying Conrad worked at some of Birmingham’s finest restaurants, including Bank and Simpson’s, as well as spending a year in industry at Malmaison working as chef and restaurant supervisor. After graduating with first class honours, Conrad became Deputy General Manager of a very busy gastro pub before opening his own business: Great British Eatery. GBE is a traditional fish and chip shop and was voted as England’s No.1 fish and chip shop in 2010.
Conrad has worked as a guest lecturer at UCB for several years, covering restaurant and bar service, financial control and small restaurant management. Conrad recently joined Off to Work and is heading up our permanent recruitment division in Birmingham. He is very excited at the thought of working in operations for such a fantastic company and looks forward to working at some of our prestigious larger events.
From an early age it was clear that Oliver was destined for a career in hospitality. Aged fifteen he began as a volunteer working for a company called Past Time Rail, which gave him the opportunity to steward on various train trips including a memorable journey on The Flying Scotsman. From then it was cookery classes at school where he was able to develop his passion in the kitchen, with curries being his favourite dish!
After beginning as a KP in a local pub, Oliver soon found himself working as a waiter at a large, award winning health spa and hotel. He was quickly offered a trainee management position and stayed with the company for six years before leaving as Assistant Manager. He then went on to work for Mitchells and Butlers, The Restaurant Group and Whitbread holding senior management positions and developing his coaching and leadership skills at a corporate level. Oliver has also developed his passion for wine, with a tasting course in Sonoma Valley, California being his favourite venue!
More recently Oliver has worked for a 500+ seat theatre and a two-rosette market fresh restaurant. Finally, before joining Off to Work as Operations Manager, he was at a Michelin starred restaurant in Birmingham city centre. His aspirations at Off to Work are to expand their client base in Birmingham before helping to open Off to Work in another large UK city.
I joined Off to Work in 2010 as a casual team member while still at University and I immediately discovered my passion towards the events industry. I have worked at various high class hospitality events from the British Grand Prix and Hampton Court Flower Show to the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival where I worked for clients such as Jaguar and Moet-Hennessy. I have also had the opportunity to take part in organising a number of press conferences and trade shows during my placement year at Panasonic UK.
Straight after I completed my degree in Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations in July 2013 I became an Operations Assistant at Off to Work’s Birmingham branch. I am excited to be part of the vibrant Off to Work family and to be continuously providing amazing experiences to both our clients and casual team members.
The first time I heard about Off to Work was when I had the pleasure to work with Off to Work staff at the Olympic Games in 2012. The quality of the staff was so impressive that I decided to join the casual team in October 2012. I progressed to become Recruitment and Training Assistant at the Birmingham office. Now as part of the office team I am looking forward to inspire new staff members for the hospitality and events industry and to show them what an amazing experience it is to be part of such a passionate team.
Originally from Germany, my studies brought me to Birmingham in 2011. I graduated with a Master Degree in Tourism Destination Management from the University College Birmingham. While I was studying in Germany I was working for a hospitality staffing agency gaining first experience in the industry. With both companies I had the chance to work at high class events and renowned venues.
